Posted Thursday, May 11, 2006 by Keith Richardson

Hempstead, NY --
Freshman Chris Mentrasti (Hartsdale, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) was named CAA Rookie of the Week by the league office.

Mentrasti went 4-for-8 this week, with two doubles, two RBIs, a walk and a stolen base as the Pride went 3-1 this week beating Iona at home and taking two of three from Northeastern on the road.

One of Menstrasti's doubles on the week was a two-run game-winning double in the top of the ninth inning against Northeastern in the series finale that gave the Pride the 7-5 victory.

Mentrasti, who has been used a utility man for Coach Dotolo, had seen time in both the infield and the outfield, playing primarily at second base and in left field, throughout the season. He has seen action in 41 games, starting 27 of them, and currently holds a .271 batting average with six doubles and eight stolen bases.

In high school, Mentrasti was a member of the 40/40/40 club with at least 40 hits, runs, and stolen bases. He was a 2005 catholic high school all-division selection as well as the team Most Valuable Player.
