Skylar Mercado closed in two different ways.

The Archbishop Stepinac junior shortstop/pitcher had the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh and also picked up the win in relief over Cardinal Spellman, 3-2, in CHSAA Bronx/Westchester ‘AA’ baseball Tuesday in The Bronx.

James Decker had two RBIs for Stepinac (3-2) and Christian Huertas started, giving up two runs in 5-2/3 innings before giving way to Mercado.

Spellman (1-1) got a major scare. Star sophomore ace Nick Padilla had to be taken out in the fourth inning due to pain in his elbow. Coach Lou Brescia said he’s currently day to day. Malik Nixon pitched well in relief and Dominick Longo went 3-for-3 for the Pilots.

Mount St. Michael 8, Salesian 6: Aaron Sosa had two RBIs and Taylor De La Rosa and Jonathan Cardona both doubled for Mount (1-3). Joe Miressi picked up an RBI for Salesian (1-3).
