Arrichiello Hits 1st Collegiate HR!

Bloomfield, N.J. - The American International College baseball team was swept in a doubleheader at Bloomfield, losing game one 3-2 and game two 8-6. The Deacons improved to 9-15 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 3-11. Junior Kevin Farrell (Wilbraham, Mass.)went 3 for 6 on the day with two RBIs and a run scored.

AIC trailed 2-1 in game one heading into the top of the sixth when Farrell delivered a two-out RBI single to score senior David Dest (Orange, Conn.) from third and third the game. The Deacons answered in the bottom of the seventh when junior Kevin Lauranzon (Dissputanta, Va.) singled to right-center field to score senior Alex Munoz (Perth Amboy, N.J.) with the game-winning run.

Freshman Sean Stimpfel (Jackson, N.J.) tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief with a pair of strikeouts to even his record at 2-2 on the season, while freshman Zach Bunszell (Medford, Mass.) allowed one run in one inning of relief work as he dropped to 0-2 for the year.

The Yellow Jackets scored twice in the first inning of game two on an RBI single from senior Jeff Rustico (Plantsville, Conn.) and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Farrell, but Bloomfield scored three times in the bottom of the second to take a 4-3 lead.

AIC regained the lead in the top of the third as Farrell singled to center field to leadoff the inning and scored on freshman Anthony Arrichiello's (Yonkers, N.Y.) two-run bomb to left-center field, giving the Yellow Jackets a 5-4 advantage. The Deacons scored three more runs to take the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth, including a two-out two-RBI single from Lauranzon.

AIC looked to have a rally going the following inning, but left the bases loaded after freshman Louis Saunders (Garfield, N.J.) grounded out to third to end the inning.

Rustico finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Arrichiello went 1 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored for AIC.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Sunday when they host a Northeasy-10 doubleheader against Merrimack starting at 12 p.m.
